New York City is getting ready for its first snow (and its removal) of the winter. As I was born in a country that comes to a screeching halt when cold weather hits, it’s impressive to see how New York deals with wintertime.

With a history starting in 1903, the Coney Island Polar Bear Club is an institution. Their annual new years dive, the coney island polar bear plunge, attracts more people every year. Even without snow on the beach, taking a dive at 33ºF (that’s about 1ºC), is cold, really cold.
