Manhattan feels like an island more than other days.  I already announced in my earlier post that the subway system  would shut down. Fortunately, that did not happen during the working day. By 11 PM today however,  the subway service will end.  The trains will be brought underground on the express tracks of the subway.   The bus service and the commuter rail towards northern parts of New York State, will also halt at that time. With a history starting in 1903, the Coney Island Polar Bear Club is an institution. Their annual new years dive, the coney island polar bear plunge, attracts more people every year. Even without snow on the beach, taking a dive at 33ºF (that’s about 1ºC), is cold, really cold.
