who digged digg and where?

An interesting question asked here at a panel discussion with some web 2.0 “guru’s” handled a question asked by the audience.
Kevin Rose ( the founder of Digg) explained the steps that brought Digg the critical mass in the audience:
- Kevin’s own blog had about a 100 readers. He started posting its data here.
- The application was used by some friends of the readers of the blog, and they communicated it to their friend.
- At a certain point, webmasters started to notice the amount of hits coming form this new site, and started blogging about it and linking to it
- And the rest is history
The first requirement was off course the fat that a cool application was needed to have it started. No matter how powerfull the network is, a noncool application will not be picked up.
