The new Microsoft

by koen on Mar.06, 2008, under society

On MIX08, Guy Kawasaki made a great observation to Steve Ballmer: for his kids (about 12 years old) , who have never known the browser-war and the OS-war, Microsoft is that cool company that brings the XBOX360 and Halo…

who digged digg and where?

by koen on Mar.06, 2008, under society, technology

An interesting question asked here at a panel discussion with some web 2.0 “guru’s” handled a question asked by the audience.

Kevin Rose ( the founder of Digg) explained the steps that brought Digg the critical mass in the audience:

  1. Kevin’s own blog had about a 100 readers. He started posting its data here.
  2. The application was used by some friends of the readers of the blog, and they communicated it to their friend.
  3. At a certain point, webmasters started to notice the amount of hits coming form this new site, and started blogging about it and linking to it
  4. And the rest is history

The first requirement was off course the fat that a cool application was needed to have it started. No matter how powerfull the network is, a noncool application will not be picked up.

the shirt for IE8

by koen on Mar.06, 2008, under technology

MIX08 – David Armano’s Session

by koen on Mar.06, 2008, under society

I attended yesterday a session presented by David Armano at MIX08. I enjoyed the presentation, that touched several subjects that I have some outspoken ideas about. However, when updating my Twitter today, I noticed today that David was a little moved by the fact that some people left his session before it was over.

Being one of them David, please know that as far as I could see, most of the people enjoyed the presentation (I did !).

A few of us tought (and I can partially agree) that we enjoyed the ideas and the toughts you gave us. But… (there’s always a but, isn’t there) some of us missed the link/transition between the different ideas. That didn’t made us leave the room. What did? Well, we expirienced a death-by-demo’s during the morning keynotes and some of us couldn’t stand another flashy, geeky demo. No quality judgement on the demo or the great software you made for the iPhone, but our “DemoAbsorbingCapacity” had reached its limits.

Being a public speaker myself, I noticed, captured the event and expirience and learned a lot as well here!
